OVERVIEW

The immersive performance is set in a mirthless dystopian world.
The audience is lured to venture on a quest for joy to explore its various virtues.

In four stages the audience is (mis)guided through different worlds of numb, fake or desperate joy, where performers play with their memories of ecstatic happiness - only to experience such in an extravagant Grande Finale.

MY ROLE

As Art Director, I played a pivotal role in creating the overall aesthetic vision for the piece, ensuring that the visuals effectively communicated the message of the production.

In addition to leading the art teams that were working on one of the stages and overseeing the artistic direction of the project, I created the costume concept and scenography for one of the plays “Glitch” and implemented the set design.

THE PLOT

Glitch - In the hopeless, some individuals have managed desperately to cling on to their memory of joy - until they got stuck in it.

They now live in those joyous moments and glorious days of the past, unable to connect their memories to their present state. They glitched out on what once made them human in the first place...

THE CONCEPT

THE CONCEPT

In "Glitch," I utilized contrasting and complimentary colors in costumes and set design to evoke the internal conflicts of characters trapped in memories of joy, alongside wooden boxes symbolizing their limited minds.

By choosing contrasting colours, I wanted to visually emphasise the internal struggle and complexity of each character, highlighting the stark dichotomy between their past memories of joy and their present state of hopelessness. Similarly, I chose complementary colours to create harmony amidst the chaos, symbolising the underlying connections between the characters and their shared experiences.

The wooden stage boxes served as tangible representations of the characters' trapped and limited minds, acting as physical manifestations of their inability to escape their memories. By incorporating this visual motif into the set design, I sought to deepen the audience's understanding of the characters' psychological struggles and enhance the immersive nature of the theatrical experience.
